Our Volunteers

MARINA
(June 2012-present)
I basically met Monica and Gloria through a friend of a friend and the next thing I knew I was packing my bags and moving out of my hostel in Bogota to volunteer with Emerging Voices.

When I initially quit my job and started my Latin American journey that was a part of the goal - help others while learning Spanish and about other countries. You just have to wish and keep your eyes open for it to come.

After about three weeks of volunteering in Bogota with blind and poor children and teaching English in Chivor, I was send to the Coffee zone to start a "pilot project."

So here I am doing what I can with what I have, in the time I have, in the place I am.

Shortly about me: I was born in Ukraine and a little before I turned sixteen, moved to the USA following my mother. Not knowing a word of English I worked hard, put myself through the university and graduated with a degree in Economics. While in college I took year off and moved to France to work as an aupair and learn French.

Why did I decide to volunteer? - Because I adore people, learning and adventure. I always live the day if I were to dye tomorrow and feel like there is so much I can do, learn, teach, help, share. So why not volunteer?

My hobbies and addictions: Salsa (Colombia is the place to be) /Travel (Have been to 18 countries and have 177 to visit)/ Nature (You get to see a lot of mountains in Cafetero.
